Artist's Statement about this work: Morning---and Helen and I were astounded at our neighbor's field all filled with white German bearded iris's. We HAD to get out and walk around, soak up sunshine and immerse ourselves in pillowy white petals...and resist the urge to sword fight pirates with those long pointed leaves that Helen said had come to kidnap her as princess because her skirt was an upside-down iris (Helen's suggestion, not mine---and I talked her out of it as I didn't think the neighbors would approve). It was a moment that needed to be captured.

Artist's Statement about this work: In the early spring, I wandered around our fruit trees enjoying the blossoms. When I looked up at some blossoms, the sky was cloudy. I liked the effect, so I tried to replicate the mood of a dark silhouette against the white sky. I decided to use gouache because I am trying to be able to paint with it well enough for a class this fall in Italy.

Artist's Statement about this work: Sunflowers are the national flower for Ukraine and this shows their ability to turn to the sun and remain optimistic even when being confined with barbs and vines. Let them grow in peace.

Artist's Statement about this work: Pollinators are the VIPs in my garden and this Oregon Grape Holly attracts a lot of bumblebees each year. This year I happened to catch this one after he landed.

Artist's Statement about this work: "Calla" is a derivative of the word calla in Greek, which means beautiful. Here we see one Calla Lily, spying on its siblings, in awe of their beauty.

Artist's Statement about this work: White Gerbera Daisies signify purity and innocence. Going by an old Celtic legend, it is believed that God sprayed these daisies over the earth when a child passed away. This was a way to give their parents a little joy.

Artist's Statement about this work: This piece was experimental in nature. Painted in watercolor and then cold waxed and mounted on a wood panel. I like the fresh contemporary look.
